After a lot of research and professional reviews, we have just found that you need to groom your Bernedoodle when your Bernedoodle is just over 18 months old. Please groom them every 8-10 weeks—moreover, your Bernedoodle’s grooming depends on its coat type and many other features.

Let’s discuss the different types of Bernedoodle coats and know something more about them.

Coat Types

A Bernedoodle can have a variety of coat types depending upon their Bernese mountain dog and poodle parents. A Bernedoodle can have a curly, wavy, straight, and improper coat.

Although it’s not easy to expect any particular coat type for a Bernedoodle puppy, some reputable breeders know the coat type after some DNA testing.

1. Curly Coat

When we talk about the curly coat, it’s less common as compared to the wavy coat type. Usually, the curly coat comes from the breeding of two Bernedoodles. The curly coat type is somewhat like the poodle coat.

2. Wavy Coat

The wavy coat is mostly found coat type in the Bernedoodles. This coat comes typically from the first step breeding of Bernese mountain dog and the poodle. So we can say that the first generation of the Bernedoodle mostly has a wavy coat.

3. Straight Hair Coat

The third type coat is a straight hair coat, which is usually not treated as an improper hair coat. It just means that the Bernedoodle got the straight hair gene from both parents. In this case, both parents are Bernedoodle.

4. Improper Coat

The fourth type is improper coat Bernedoodles, That includes all those Bernedoodles which don’t have the long hair on their face like the other Bernedoodles. These dogs don’t have the long eyebrows and mustache. When we think genetically, there is nothing wrong with these dogs. They are just a little different, and not got that classic look of the normal Bernedoodles.

Bernedoodle Dog Shed

Bernedoodles dogs don’t have the shed like the other short-haired dogs. Bernedoodle shed depends upon their coat type. Mostly curly-haired Bernedoodles have less drop as compared to other coat types. So it’s easy to groom the less-shedding Bernedoodles as compared to other Bernedoodles.

If you are interested in less shedding Bernedoodle dog, you can go for the curly coat Bernedoodle as compared to other types. The curly-coated Bernedoodle resembles the poodle, which has less shedding.

When we talk about the wavy coat, they have minimal shedding and can be groom with a regular brush and wash. The daily brushing of the wavy coat Bernedoodle can provide you a Bernedoodle with almost no shedding.

The straight hair Bernedoodle has the shedding, but it can also be minimized by proper grooming. As you need the regular brushing to straight hair Bernedoodle, the undercoat shedding will completely shed out.

Improper coated Bernedoodles are less as compared to any short hair dog. But it’s don’t mean that they are completely hypoallergenic. Every dog sheds their skin cells even if they don’t shed hair. So no dog is entirely hypoallergenic.
